xorg.conf este fisierul in care se pastreaza configuratia pentru serverul X, si il gasesti in /etc/X11
Cea mai comuna problema pe care am avut-o, a fost rezolutia neadecvata selectata pentru monitor. Adica o rezolutie prea mare sau o rata de refresh mai mare decat suporta monitorul.
Pentru a corecta asta, logat ca root, daca nu ai un tool pentru mediu text (nu stiu pe pclos ce si daca este, dar pe mandriva poti folosi drakconf), poti modifica manual fisierul xorg.conf, stergand cele mai mari rezolutii pentru fiecare Subsection "Display", astfel ca la Modes sa ai de exemplu ca cea mai mare rezolutie permisa "800x600".
de ex.:

Dupa ce ai salvat fisierul, incerci o repornire de X. Daca tot nu merge, fii atent ce mesaj de eroare iti da. S-a intamplat ca sa fie necesara stergerea unui fisier care bloca pornirea serverului.
Daca serverul X porneste si ajungi in interfata grafica, faci modificarile care crezi de cuviinta, si cu asta....basta.
Multa bafta.

Din consola poti sa incerci comanda drakconf ca root.
Te duci la sectiunea de monitor si faci probe pe acolo.
Este acelasi lucru ca si cand ai edita xorg.conf ----> dar mai usor pt incepatori ;)

Incep sa ii dau din ce in ce mai mult dreptate lui beranger cu lb. romana :)
PCLinuxOS are drakconf sau XFdrake, se poate configura serverul dintr-o interfata ncurses
Da ! Multumesc foarte mult tuturor pentru ajutor ! Se pare ca "spiritul mandrivesc" nu a disparut, ba din contra, el exista si este foarte activ ! :)
Momentan sunt tot la job, dar am renuntat la PCLOS, si am pus MCN Live, este superb !!!:)
Am ramas foarte surprins de cum se misca, pe ... "harbul" asta de calculator de aici !")
Am reusit sa ma descurc un pic mai usor cu Drakconf, dar da urmatoarea eroare:
