OK, update done, acum am 4G RAM si in BIOS mi-i vede corect. Am pus kernel 3.0.4 nrj-desktop de la MIB ... imi vede 3.2G doar. Am incercat sa instalez si un kernel kernel-rsbac-server-latest-3.0.4-1.x86_64 dar nu vrea sa booteze cu el (nu reuseste sa comunice pe ceva socket rsbac).[root@localhost csaba]# free -m

Pai si atunci ce? O sa mai studiez si in BIOS, dar ieri cat m-am uitat acolo raporta corect 4G RAM. Conform specificatiilor systemului si manualului HP 4G sunt perfect OK. Plus ca e evident ca se vede mai mult 3G in Linux, doar ca nu se vede nimic apropiat de 4G. Sunt constient ca nu o sa raporteze niciodata 4G, dar un 3.7-3.9G ar trebui sa vad, la fel ca tine.

In BIOS nu am nici o setare legata de PAE sau alte chestii de RAM. Imi zice purs is implu in fereastra informativa ca am 4G RAM.

PAE e doar un petec la kernelurile pe 32 de bit ca sa-l faca sa recunoasca mai mult de 3 G de ram , pe 64 vine recunoscut in mod nativ pina la 64 de G de ram ,
Csaba pe un mobo mai vechi imi aduc aminte si io aveam aceeasi problema pe un asus chiar daca ei ziceau ca recunoaste 4 giga de ram si pe manual tot asa zicea , de fapt in viata reala biosul recunostea doar 3 .....
ai 2 de 2giga ? ai 4 canale sau 2 ?

Verificat din nou pe site la HP, verificat toate versiunile de BIOS ... asta suporta 4G din nastere, care era cu vreo 3 versiuni inainte de versiunea mea.

incerca cu citeva live de la "concurenta " si vezi ce zic si alea , sau chiar un wingoz ( cu toate ca io zic ca nu o sa rezolvi nimic ,

Incercatul cu live-uri va fi task-ul pe weekend-ul asta (dupa ce termin de citit cartea ce am inceput ieri).
Cu biosul si mb-ul nu sunt foarte sigur. Am mai gasit un singur thread cu problema mea la HP si acolo e unul cu un Linux care vede doar 3.25G. Din pacate nu are solutie thread-ul, decat un rapsuns de la HP ca ar trebui sa mearga.

@Symbianflo: de vreun an si jumatate doar carti de programare citesc. Am mai scapat si cate un roman SF pe drum, dar cam putine. Mai multe detalii despre ce am citit si ce citesc acum in domeniul programarii poti sa vezi pe blogul meu. Voi face un post mai expliciti cu mini-review-uri la carti si cu linkuri la amazon, dar deocamdata e doar o lista. Probabil vor veni detaliile astea dupa ce gat "The Clean Coder", daca totul merge bine sambata seara sau duminica.

mem=xG e deprecated de la 2.6.26 dragule pe 64 de bit cu sau fara nu schimba nimic decit ca daca ai mai mult de 4G restul vine neglijat.... incearca 3.0.7 mib de pierdut n-ai ce pierde.... Cu toate ca eu ramin la parerea mea .....

deci dragule repet nu cred ca e de vina kernelul. Imi pare rau ptr mobo si bios dar cred ca te-au pacalit.
