Buna dimineata,
am downloadat ieri ultima varianta a driverului nvidia, si, la instalare, desi totul a decurs normal, cind am vrut sa pornesc X-ul, am primit urmatorul mesaj:
could not open default font "fixed"
Ce nu-i place?
Inteleg ca nu a gasit fontul implicit, insa cum sa-l repar?
Si, mai am o intrebare:
acasa, dupa instalarea variantei anterioare a driverului nvidia, la iesirea din serverul X in modul text, am pe ecran niste caractere ciudate, din care unele au efectul de "blink", oricum totul este nelizibil. Cum pot corecta aceasta problema? Si (alta intrebare), de ce nu-mi merge nvtv-ul?
Cred ca ma opresc aici, fiindca sunt cam multe intrebari pentru o dimineata ploioasa...

Ai umblat recent la fonturile din sistem ? Am mai intalnit eroarea asta. Uite, iti dau un text de pe un sit oficial Mandriva care acopera toate aspectele. Daca nu intelegi ce se prezinta acolo, spui si iti explicam.

There is either something wrong about your font path, your fonts, the font server or the files which contain the font information ('fonts.alias' and 'fonts.dir' in the fonts directories in '/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts').
Make sure you have the X font server xfs installed (rpm -qa | grep xfs) and that it is running (service xfs status as 'root'). Have a look at '/etc/X11/XF86Config-4'. The font path setting should look like this:
~FontPath "unix/:-1"
Have a look at '/etc/X11/fs/config', the font server configuration file. Do you have all the font directories that are listed therein? Try putting a hash ('#') in front of some paths and (re)start the font server and X.
If you have tried to add or remove fonts recently - either by hand or by using the '~DrakFont' utility, it might be that the font information files contain wrong settings. To solve this, you have to regenerate them using the 'mkfontdir' command. For more information, refer to Adding fonts to X.

Nu am umblat la fonturi, pina acuma.
Intr-adevar, in fisierul /etc/X11/fs/config nu am gasit caile catre /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/drakfont/*,
am marcat cu # inainte aceste linii, am resetat serverul X si, la initializare am primit mesajul
font path element unix/:7100 not found.
deci, nu gaseste altceva?

Refa setarile cum erau, logheaza-te ca root si sa imi spui daca asa serverul grafic porneste. Este posibil sa fie si o problema de permisiuni. Este un fisier numit fonts.alias in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts cae trebuie sa aiba permisiuni de citire si pentru useri. Nu se spune in textul de mai sus si chestiunea asta...

Uite aici cateva sugestii mai detaliate.
Nu inteleg cum ai reusit sa te capacesti cu problema asta stresanta. Stii ce e nasol la ea, faptul a pe net toti o aburesc asa cum facem noi aici. O fi de la aia, o fi de la ailalta. Sunt prea multe cauze posibile si prea putine solutii concrete. Incearca pasii de mai sus, este cel mai pertinent text pe care l-am gasit.

Asa e unii, mai cu ghinion.... Stii cum se zice, daca nu vine muntele la Mahomed, merge Mahomed la munte... :-)

Daca urmezi textul poti rezolva problema si inveti foarte multe despre fonturi pe linux. Avantaj tu. Deci nu te consiera chiar un ghinionist... Nu stiu de ce, dar subiectul asta nu mi-a placut niciodata si in plus urasc eroarea asta. :-(
Mai este o problema hazlie, pe care o avea un prieten si pe urma am mai intalnit-o si pe alte PC-uri. Dupa install toate fonturile au dimensiune minima si nu le poti regla din interfata grafica. :-o

Am ajuns si eu pe Mandriva si m-am uitat putin prin sistem. Fisierul fonts.alias unde sunt definite fonturile fixe se gaseste in directorul misc listat de tine mai sus. Verifica-i te rog permisiunile. Ar trebui sa-l poata citi toti userii.
