Exact cu 20 de ani in urma, pe data de 12 noiembrie 1990, Tim Berners-Lee, cu jutorul lui Robert Cailliau a propus formal un proiect hypertext, numit "**World Wide Web**", care avea ca scop crearea unei arhitecturi de a vizualiza documente hypertext in browsere web intr-o arhitectura client-server.
