Kernel + -NRJ -NRJ-PAE for mdv 2010.2

Dupa iesirea 2010.2 MIB au decis sa introduca de default "petecul minune" si preemt si sa le updateze toate patchurile .
Evantaiul aromilor porneste de la 2.6.33.7 pina la ultimul racnet 2.6.36.2 trecind prin 2.6.35.10.
Incepind de acuma toate kernelurile MIB v-or avea MG patch ( petecul minune), si preempt de default.

Deasupra la zona de editare scrie "Body" si langa el scrie "Summary". Click pe "Summary" si apare inca o zona de editare unde pui ce vrei sa apara pe prima pagina. NU UITA, continutul lui summary NU apare cand te uiti la articol, doar pe prima pagina (logica Drupal7 sorry, daca gasesc o metoda mai buna o sa-ti zic).

Kernel 2.6.36.2 are now all with Mike Gilbraith new scheduler patch V4
The patch is the most recent available, but a W.I.P., not final and full stable.

Be careful: This server kernel has been never tested

If you want test its effects and side-effects, you can enable/disable the CONFIG_SCHED_AUTOGROUP=y

So you can understand if there is some possible problem caused by the new young kernel schedule patch or not

On the fly, from a root konsole, typing

To disable Autogroup
echo 0 > /proc/sys/kernel/sched_autogroup_enabled
To enable Autogroup again
echo 1 > /proc/sys/kernel/sched_autogroup_enabled

at boot, from Grub, adding to your kernel line the string, you disable Autogroup
noautogroup

Deci ... de cand sunt pe 2.6.36.2, aparent merge dar am impresia ca sunt probleme cu driverul de NVidia. Acum nu stiu exact care e problema, kernelul sau driver-ul, dar jocurile imi merg la mai putine FPS (desi asta inca e in limita acceptabila - 70fps in loc 90fps) si din cand in cand imi crapa tot systemul cand ma uit la filme decodate cu vdpau (daca am noroc mai apuc sa apas ctrl-alt-bkspace si scap cu un restart de X, daca nu, power-off fortat de la butonul PC-ului).

It's important witk kernel 2.6.36.xx to use newer Nvidia current drivers (such in /non-free/backports), and rebuild them:
I noticed that sometimes drivers don't rebuild so I had to uninstall and install again to make them work properly, so, with two simple commands

urpme dkms-nvidia-current urpmi dkms-nvidia-current

With Nvidia 5 series (FX 5500 for example), you need new 173.28, not presemt in mandy /non-free/backports:
It's the need to rebuild the one SRPMS now present in cooker /non-free

With Nvidia 4 series (Mx 400 for example) I had problems with mandy drivers, I have not tested the newer drivers in nvidia site (this new version it not present neither in cooker)

Well, I use the latest NVidia drivers (260.19.29) downloaded from nvidia.com on a 8600GT. Do you think that the dkms drivers are better? I usually prefer the driver from nvidia.com because it compiles itself on my computer, and dkms drivers usually don't come out for 1-2 weeks after the release of a new NVidia driver.

I have the same problem with a GeForce 9600 M GS under MDV 2010.2 - 64 bit with 2.6.36.2-nrj-desktop, if I use the latest driver downloaded from nvidia's site: 260.19.29 the system freezes from time to time and I have to shut it down manually. If I try to install an older driver, say 256.53 it doesn't build.

My solution was getting back to 2.6.35.4-desktop-nrj with the 256.53 driver, combination which seems to be the best from the performance and stability points of view.

I only know, i use ever the dkms-nvidia-current, now 260.16.29 from /non-free/backports, I have no problems with these (testing now new games, just ported like supertuxkart, sauerbrating)

It's recommended not having a gcc different from 2010.1/2010.2 default version, it could not compile with newer gcc, otherwise you need to make a fast rebuild of src.rpm

- DKMS-drivers, are more adapted for mandriva linux, especially for scripts executed during install phase
instead
- Drivers direcly from nvidia, sometimes suffers this kind of problems, i tested that thing many times, it's not a viable option for me, it's a tabu, so if I need immediately a new nvidia driver, i prefer to make the new dkms from myself

P.S. In recent times, in backports, Hansi Hannula make dkms-driver, almost immediately (two or three days after the sources release, just a little time to test if all is fine)

Hmm, you were right. After I installed the dkms drivers everything went back to normal. FPS in games is OK and I did not have any freezes/crashes and VDPAU also works as expected.

Salut

Am instalat noul kernel pe 64 de biti si aparent totul este bine. Sa vedem cum se comporta in continuare.
L.E.: Dupa instalare a functionat o zi, dupa care, a doua zi nu a mai pornit decit in consola. Pornirea ca user nu a mai functionat, iar startx din root ducea la blocarea tastaturii si a mouse-ului.
Driverul pentru placa video (nvidia 7300GT) era cel mai nou, insa nu a vrut deloc.
A trebuit sa revin la kernelul vechi (2.3.36.1-desktop-nrj.69mib) pentru a avea sistemul functional.
Nu stiu daca blocarea se intimpla din kernel, din driverul video sau din alte minuni, insa .... nu vrea.
